Assistant Montessori Teacher Position

Are you looking for a change? With the new opportunity at Ampersand Schoolhouse as Assistant Montessori Teacher, you’ll enjoy a highly rewarding experience helping 2.5 to 6 year old children blossom and flourish; all within a charming, wooded 2.5 acre setting. Our Assistant Montessori Teacher will help create innovative, exciting lesson plans and enhance the learning environment for our students. The Assistant Montessori Teacher, under the supervision of the Lead Teacher and Administration, is expected to establish and maintain a quality educational program by fulfilling the qualifications and responsibilities listed below:

 

Qualifications:

  • Associates degree preferred 

  • Excellent verbal, written and email communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills (email, hard/soft copy of documentation and workspace)

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Engage in positive, ethical and professional behavior at all times

  • Ability and willingness to be responsible for the safety and physical well-being of all the students in your charge

  • Ability to work independently when necessary

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Teach and supervise all students in assigned class in the Montessori method and curriculum in all academic and specialty areas of study

  • Prepare lesson materials and take ownership of the maintenance/organization of materials

  • Assist in the maintenance and cleanliness of classroom and all shared spaces at school

  • Demonstrate the ability to relate joyfully to children and foster their natural curiosity

  • Exhibit emotional maturity and stability

  • Recognize and address all school (parent, child, team) issues immediately

  • Organize work so that daily time is allotted for recordkeeping, meetings with team members, School Directors and parents

  • Be in attendance at all Assistant staff meetings and parent 

  • Maintain ongoing communication with team members

  • Share all information given at biweekly staff meetings

  • Inform the Lead Teacher of any information given to you by a parent

  • Follow the classroom schedule created by the Lead Teacher 

  • Assist and guide all substitute teachers working in your classroom

  • Review weekly lesson plans with the lead teacher and assist with the written summary of the week

  • Assist Lead Teacher with the preparation of and participation in parent conferences at least twice each School Year, including some evening conferences 

  • Assist the Lead Teacher in checking classroom e-mails and telephone messages

  • Assist the Lead Teacher with the writing and organization of notes for all ongoing school reports, end-of-the-year summaries, and reports required for evaluations by outside agencies for all students in a timely manner

  • Assist Lead Teacher in the maintenance of current ongoing records (communication logs, conference summary forms, observation notes) on all students in your classroom and have same available for School's review upon request

  • Assist Lead Teacher in the recording of observations on children in the classroom utilizing School standards/procedures

  • Recognize and report any and all safety issues/accidents/evidence of abuse immediately 

  • Be proactive when others are not demonstrating appropriate behaviors 

  • Follow all School policies and procedures as stated in the Employee Handbook and the School's Rules and Regulations

  • Demonstrate appropriate and professional behaviors at all times when in and around the school building and surrounding school neighborhood 

  • Follow all standards in accordance with the American Montessori Society 

  • All other duties that may arise from employment with Ampersand Schoolhouse
